    Broadway in Chicago

Emerald City Theatre’s beloved production of Corduroy returns to Chicago just in time for the holidays! In this sweet adaptation of Don Freeman’s classic book, a small bear’s quest for a missing button leads to the friendship of a lifetime. After the lights are dimmed and the doors locked, the department store comes to life with circus elements and physical comedy. It’s up to Corduroy to outsmart the Night Watchman as he waits for his new pal Lisa to return with her mother. Along with exciting scenes of clowning and mischief, the story teaches the importance of empathy and unconditional love. Tailored for young imaginations, this playful adventure will delight ages three and up!

CORDUROY is recommended for ages 3+

Eternal Light: The Sacred Stained-Glass Windows of Louis Comfort Tiffany

Eternal Light looks without sentiment at the ecclesiastical windows of the Tiffany firm as rich reminders that America is ever-changing. Louis Comfort Tiffany’s masterpieces tell stories of American entrepreneurship, of places of worship as community incubators, of our country’s evolving relationship to religion. Eternal Light is not only about beautiful objects exceptionally crafted; it is also about the ideas and stories behind the windows: progressive technologies, designers, and patrons.

At the heart of the exhibition are eleven outstanding, religiously themed windows made between 1880 and 1925 that demonstrate the signature designs, working methods, techniques, and production styles of Tiffany and his workshops.

    Porchlight Music Theater

    The Ruffians’ “Burning Bluebeard”

Porchlight Music Theatre plays host to a fast-growing Chicago holiday tradition for a strictly limited engagement! Burning Bluebeard, created and performed by the critically acclaimed theatre troupe The Ruffians, has been touted as “a show you won’t quickly forget and that you could only see in Chicago” by the Chicago Tribune, and NewCity says the production is “filled to the brim with irreverent humor, riveting dance sequences and enough charm to fill a bucket…” Told with music, clowning, tumbling, acrobatics and dance, “Burning Bluebeard,” is a physical-performance phenomena inspired by the true story of Chicago’s former Iroquois Theatre and the unforgettable events that resulted in tragedy for 600 theatergoers at Christmastime in 1903. A holiday tradition for many since its debut in 2011, each performance excavates the poetic and poignant remains of a piece of Chicago’s rich history and leaves the audiences with an unforgettable experience.
